The Paper describes the special manoeuvring requirements of shuttle tankers, and outlines the different propulsion systems applicable to shuttle tankers. Furthermore the Paper describes the new compact engines, the S-MC-C engines as well as a new concept that comprises systems for capturing and storing the oil vapour released from the crude oil cargo during handling and transport. This concept will reduce oil vapours emitted to the atmosphere as well as give significant savings in fuel oil costs.
