The Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) has awarded an order for an 18 MW extension of their plant at Clifton Pier, Nassau to Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC), Denmark.
The 12K50MC-S engine, developing 18.3 MW at 180 rpm, will be the heart of the plant. This will be supplied by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Japan, which is MAN B&W Diesel’s longest-standing licensee.
The new extension will be the fifth MAN B&W Diesel two-stroke low speed diesel engine at the site, bringing the total capacity up to 135 MW.
This new order underlines BEC’s reliance on MAN B&W Diesel’s two-stroke engines in the demanding island environment – without any power back-up, where reliability, fuel efficiency and load flexibility are essential.
