Power turbines exploit the surplus energy made available by high efficiency turbochargers, whose performance may exceed that required by a 2-stroke diesel engine. MAN Diesel can tap the excess power from the turbocharging system and apply it to raise the overall system efficiency by using Power Turbines and Turbo Compound Systems.
MAN Diesel power turbines are offered in seven sizes with outputs up to 4850 kW and the following features:
- Radial or axial-flow turbine and axial gas outlet diffusor
- Short connection between turbine and reduction gear unit
- Turbine and gear lubricated by the engine's lube oil system
- Entirely water-free design
- High efficiency
- Reliable operation on heavy fuel oil engines
- Low maintenance costs
